AI startup focused on practical agent automation
Full Description
**Volunteer AI Engineer โ Arkofn (2-Month Evaluation Period)**
**Location: Toronto | Remote-Friendly**
Arkofn is an AI agent development company building AI agents and
chatbots that handle real-world communication and operational tasks.
We focus on practical, reliable systems that reduce human workload
while maintaining clear boundaries, trust, and accountability.
We are seeking Volunteer AI Engineers to help build and improve AI
agents and chatbots that interact with humans through text, voice,
and digital systems. This is a hands-on role focused on execution,
not theory. During the 2-month volunteer evaluation period,
contributors will work on real conversational systems designed to
understand intent, manage information flow, follow strict rules, and
escalate to humans when required. High-performing and committed
volunteers may be offered a full-time position at the end of the
period.
Responsibilities include building and improving AI agents and
chatbots, designing conversational flows and agent logic, translating
human workflows into rule-based automation, integrating systems with
APIs and external services, enforcing clear handoff rules between AI
agents and humans, ensuring agents do not guess or exceed defined
responsibilities, and continuously testing and refining behavior for
reliability and consistency.
Candidates should have a solid understanding of basic programming
concepts, be comfortable working with Python or similar backend
languages, and be able to work with APIs, JSON, and request/response
systems. You should be able to break down conversations and human
tasks into clear, automatable steps and think logically within
rule-based systems. Experience with chatbots, AI agents, automation
tools, or messaging platforms is considered an asset but not
required. Formal education is not required; functional ability
matters more than credentials.
This role is contribution-based and not tracked by hours. We value
ownership, clarity, and meaningful progress over time spent. The
interview process consists of a short online conversation followed by
a hands-on, sandboxed group project focused on building a small AI
agent or chatbot. No technical exams or take-home tests are used, and
no work from the session is applied directly to Arkofn products.
