The Position ****The opportunity:**** We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer intern to join the Roche Product Development Group Centre of Excellence (COE). In the COE, we aim to leverage technology to revolutionize the practice of medicine and improve patient outcomes. As a Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer intern, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop, and deploy structured, high-quality data solutions, particularly focusing on applications of Large Language Models (LLMs). These solutions will support our PDG in achieving our mission: to do now what patients need next.

- Work alongside experienced Data Scientists, ML engineers, MLOps/DevOps engineers, and cross-functional teams to address complex problems using modern NLP technologies, particularly LLMs - Assist in building data pipelines and deployment pipelines for ML models - Contribute to the development of ML models based on business and functional requirements - Support with the deployment and performance tuning of various models - Document and communicate design and implementation details effectively - Assist the COE AI team in making technical decisions - Collaborate with clients and informatics departments to deploy scalable and maintainable solutions - Participate in troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis

****Who you are:****

- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, statistics, computer science, electrical engineering) or Life Sciences degree with significant computational experience - Basic understanding of building data and deployment pipelines specifically for Large Language Model (LLM) applications using tools like SageMaker, Vertex AI, or Kubeflow - Hands-on exposure to core machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras) and experience with automated scripting and model orchestration - Familiarity with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies like Docker to support scalable app deployment - Solid grasp of the full software lifecycle, including CI/CD (Jenkins, GitLab), version control (Git), Linux/Bash, and Test-Driven Development (TDD) - Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across multicultural, virtual teams and a commitment to customer-centric delivery

- Exposure to healthcare or clinical operations
